Seawolf Facts

  • The first Wolf gram was issued from FT Benning, GA in March 1967. The author was Lt Allen Weseleskey.
  • First year operations statistics:
      • 13,761,000 .762 rounds fired
      • 155,000 2.75 inch rockets fired
      800,000 rounds of fifty and thirty cal rounds fired
  • During TET of 1968, 275 M60 barrels burned out. The squadron had to borrow barrels from a Marine unit in Da Nang. HMN-165 flew the emergency barrels to HA(L)-3 in an H46.
  • HA(L)-3 was decommissioned in March,1972. Approximately 3000 men were rotated through the squadron. We have found, to date, 686 Wolves.
